Which direct response strategy pulls the best response? Is it a postcard? Self mailer? A Letter? The answer to that is not a simple one. It depends.
The success of your direct response strategy really depends on who you are mailing to, what your promise to them is, and when your mail is going out and what it is you mail. Here are a few things you need to be asking yourself to decide which direct response strategy is the one that you are going to want to go with for your next mailing…
A letter? Is your offer going to reach your prospect from a person, by name? Does it need to be addressed to certain person by name? Is confidentiality or privacy of concern? Then it should be mailed in an envelope. The sales letter would be your best bet here.
How about a postcard? If your message is simple and short, then perhaps this may be your best direct mail strategy.
Should you use a self mailer? Are you looking to keep your mailing costs down? Try a self mailer. This will help illustrate your sales message.
You could also use a classic direct mail package, especially if you have things that won’t fit in a letter from technical specifications. Is your sales message longer than 600 words? Do your prospects need to mail you back a check or an order form? Then this will be your best direct mail strategy.
Another direct response strategy for you to consider is a dimensional mailer. Do you need to reach Fortune 500 companies or C-level executives whose secretary screens their mail? Then the dimensional mailer is the way for you to go. This direct mail response has the potential for a high response rate.
You should mail out a catalog if you have a lot of items to sell, or if you want to show color or the shape and quality of a product.
How about if you have a message that needs to reach everyone in a specific geographic area/ Then an unaddressed flyer would be what you need.
If you have a short sales message for your existing customers, email (with their permission) would be your best bet.
Perhaps you have a short announcement for your existing customers… or you need to remind them about something coming up… then you’ll want to include a buckslip in your next mailing…
